The first annual GENE Amsterdam day was held November 30, 2022 in the city center of Amsterdam. We look back at an exciting event where over 60 researchers from different genetics research groups in Amsterdam were able to meet and network. In the morning, the new GENE Amsterdam website was officially launched, followed by interesting talks from nine speakers (dr. Titus Galama, Melanie de Wit, dr. Abdel Abdellaoui, dr. Wonu Akingbuwa, dr. Niccoló Tesi, Kavish Kohabir, dr. Connie Bezzina, dr. Yuri Milaneschi, and Elleke Tissink) from different research institutes. After the research talks, there was a combined lunch & poster session where junior career researchers presented their work. In the afternoon we focused on how we can use and apply our network, starting with a presentation on funding opportunities by NWO, followed by lively consultation sessions in smaller groups. The input from these consultation sessions will be used to improve our website and strengthen the network. At the end of the day, Emil Uffelmann was awarded the poster prize for his poster “Genome-wide association studies of polygenic score-derived phenotypes may lead to inflated false positive rates”. We thank all participants for their contribution and look forward to another fruitful meeting next year!
